Dhiraj Kumar Das

Assistant Professor, Department of Mathematics, BITS Pilani, Pilani Campus
Education
Ph.D. in Science from IIEST, Shibpur, India.
M.Sc. in Mathematics from IIT Madras, India.
B.sc. in Mathematics (Honours) from The University of Burdwan, India.

I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Mathematics, BITS Pilani, Pilani campus. My research focuses on the intersection of Mathematics, Epidemiology, and Ecology, with a particular emphasis on understanding infectious disease transmission within interacting populations through complex Dynamical Systems. I analyse mathematical models to explore concepts such as asymptotic stability of steady states, bifurcation, chaos, etc. I am also fascinated by the wide range of spatiotemporal patterns observed in ecosystems and the mathematical principles underlying their formation. In particular, I model the ecosystems using semi linear partial or integro-differential equations and study Turing instability, which examines the instability of spatially uniform steady states under small spatial perturbations. My work also involves optimal control problems aimed at optimizing disease control measures, treatment policies, vaccination strategies, etc.

Professional experiences before joining BITS Pilani:

  1. Assistant Professor, Adamas University, Kolkata, India. (Jan 2024 to June 2024).
  2. National Post Doctoral Fellow funded by SERB (Govt. of India) at IIT Kanpur, India. (Jan 2022 to Dec 2023).
  3. Adhoc faculty in Mathematics, NIT Andhra Pradesh, Tadepalligudem, India. (Oct 2021 to Dec 2021).
  4. Substitute teacher in Mathematics under the scheme FDP-UGC, Govt. of India at Hooghly Women's College, India. (Oct 2013 to April 2015).
