Department Summary

The Physics department of BITS Pilani, K K Birla Goa campus, established in 2004, is committed to fulfil the vision of the Institute, to “enrich, transform and inspire young minds”. We are currently twenty four faculty members with rich backgrounds, committed to the highest standards of excellence in teaching and research.   We offer a four year Integrated Masters programme in Physics with input through BITSAT,  Minor programmes in Physics and in Quantum Information and Technologies, for undergraduates majoring in other disciplines and a Doctoral programme. Our curriculum is vetted against the highest standards, and undergoes regular revisions and upgradation. Our courses encourage active participation and are geared towards the world of cutting edge science research.

Welcome to the Department of Physics at BITS Pilani, K K Birla Goa Campus. Since its inception in 2004, our department has grown into a dynamic center of learning and research, with a strong commitment to academic excellence and scientific exploration. With a faculty of diverse expertise, we aim to cultivate curiosity, critical thinking, and innovation among our students. Our vision aligns with the Institute’s goal to “enrich, transform, and inspire young minds,” and we continue to uphold these values through our teaching, research, and outreach activities.

Department Responsibilities

The department is responsible for offering core and elective courses in Physics across undergraduate and postgraduate programs. We ensure the continual updating of our curriculum to reflect recent advancements in the field. The department supports students in their academic projects, laboratory work, thesis guidance, and research training. We also facilitate academic advising, mentoring, and interdisciplinary collaboration with other departments.

Our faculty members are engaged in translational research, some of which has led to patentable technologies in photonic devices and quantum sensors. Efforts are ongoing to convert laboratory research into practical applications that serve industry and society.
