Department Summary

Established in 1944, we are one of the oldest departments on the campus. The department has grown with strong research interests in the Physical Chemistry, Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Bioorganic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, Theoretical and Computational Chemistry, etc.

Equipped with a state-of-the-art instrumentation facility and research laboratories, we are counted amongst the best departments for education in Chemistry across the country.

Since its inception in 1944, the Department of Chemistry has evolved into a first-rate center of academic and research excellence. The department has broadened its range and capabilities over the years and now serves as a center for science learning and discovery. Academic rigor has been our hallmark that has helped it earn an excellent reputation both within and outside the country.

The research of the department covers a broad spectrum of specializations, from Physical Chemistry to Synthetic Organic Chemistry, Inorganic Chemistry, Bioorganic Chemistry, Medicinal Chemistry, and Theoretical & Computational Chemistry. This breadth enables us to tackle sophisticated scientific problems and contribute importantly to a wide variety of disciplines across the chemical sciences.

Department Responsibilities

The department is committed to offering broad-based education at the undergraduate and postgraduate levels in Chemistry. Our program is focused on developing a good foundation in basic concepts as well as fostering analytical minds and laboratory skills that prepare students for various career options in science and industry.

We actively encourage research in various branches of Chemistry, such as Physical, Organic, Inorganic, Bioorganic, Medicinal, and Theoretical Chemistry. Researchers and students participate in cutting-edge research that helps in the advancement of scientific knowledge as well as solving real-life issues through interdisciplinary research.

To enhance quality education and research, the department has well-equipped and regularly updated modern laboratories and advanced equipment.
