Over the years the department has nurtured young minds to produce bright able civil engineers. The department has expertise in almost the entire spectrum of civil engineering, offering Higher Degree programmes in Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering and Infrastructure Engineering and Management. Many of our faculty members and students are involved in research activities in various areas of civil engineering. The department is also very active in conducting conferences, workshops, short term seminars etc. The department has been constantly involved in a range of consultancy projects.
The Department of Civil Engineering at BITS Pilani, founded in 1959, possesses a legacy of excellence in technical education and innovation. The department, over the decades, has served as a critical component in developing highly competent civil engineers who have contributed extensively to infrastructure development in India and worldwide. The course curriculum is specially framed to offer a strong foundation in fundamental civil engineering concepts while incorporating contemporary trends in the industry and up-to-date technology.
The department provides special postgraduate courses in Structural Engineering, Transportation Engineering, and Infrastructure Engineering & Management. These are designed to offer in-depth understanding and practical skills in special areas, which will equip students for academics, industry, and research. Emphasizing both theoretical education and practical exposure, these courses are in line with international standards of engineering.
Research forms the heart of the department, and faculty and students are involved in cutting-edge research studies in different areas like sustainable building, intelligent transportation systems, and structural dynamics. The department also hosts national and international conferences, seminars, and workshops on a regular basis, serving as a platform for knowledge sharing and interaction. These not only enrich the academic environment but also promote strong networks among the research and professional communities.
