Department Summary

The Mechanical Engineering Department educates the Engineers of tomorrow by integrating class room theory and practical hands-on projects. It emphasizes on the process of learning and critical thinking and promotes professional relationships among the university and industry. Mechanical Engineering is the broadest of the engineering professions. Mechanical Engineers learn to solve Engineering Problems in Design, Optimization, Manufacturing, Thermo-fluids and Engineering Management. Students get many opportunities to by apply taught materials in specialized areas of Robotics & Automation, Mechatronics, Energy Conversion and Energy Management, Materials, 3D Printing, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC) and Aeronautics. Training is provided in Software such as AutoCAD, CATIA, SOLIDWORKS, ANSY, MSC ADAMS, AUTOMATION STUDIO, DIGIMAT, ESPIRIT, RICARDO, DFX and MATLAB.

Opportunities are available to the students to serve as the members of professional bodies such as Mechanical Engineering Association (MEA), American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), Society of Automotive Engineers (SAE), American Society of Heating, Refrigeration and Air Conditioning Engineers.

(ASHRAE) & BITS Aerospace Society (BAEROS). The research currently undertaken by this department through consultancy is in the areas of Robotics, Energy Management and Material Testing through well-equipped laboratories.

Message from Head of Department (HOD)

Welcome to the Department of Mechanical Engineering at BITS Pilani, Dubai Campus. Our mission is to nurture future engineers by blending rigorous theoretical instruction with hands-on project-based learning. We emphasize critical thinking, interdisciplinary application, and real-world relevance in everything we teach. Our students are trained to be problem solvers and innovators across domains such as robotics, energy systems, mechatronics, and aeronautics. With a strong industry interface and vibrant student community, we are committed to developing skilled engineers who are both globally competent and ethically grounded.

Department Responsibilities

The department is dedicated to delivering quality education, fostering innovation, and preparing students for challenges in core mechanical and interdisciplinary fields. We ensure students receive balanced exposure to theory, design, manufacturing practices, and engineering tools. Additionally, we support student involvement in technical clubs, conferences, competitions, and professional societies to broaden their technical acumen and leadership abilities.
