Department Summary
The Department of Humanities and Social Sciences (HSS) at BITS Pilani, Dubai Campus serves a unique purpose in an institute dedicated to the study and excellence in science and technology. The HSS Department has faculty members specialising in a range of research areas from various disciplines. We believe that engineering and science are humanistic and socially derived enterprises. Therefore, a holistic science and technology education must include liberal arts, economics, and social and behavioural sciences, where students learn to combine the application of scientific principles with a humanist, moral and social understanding of the world.
The HSS Department offers a PhD Programme in the areas of Humanities and Social Sciences. Further, the Department offers diverse courses at the First Degree, Higher Degree and Doctoral level. The undergraduate courses seek to engender critical thinking and questioning practice and sensitize students to the broader social, cultural, economic, and ethical issues surrounding them. The HSS Department offers excellent opportunities and facilities for the pursuit of research and development. The Department faculty also guides projects, theses and dissertations at the First Degree and Higher Degree levels. We offer training programmes in Research Methodology, Arabic Language, Presentation Skills, Interpersonal Skills, Leadership Skills, Group Discussion Skills, Business/Managerial Communication, and Effectiveness of Teaching.
