Balakrushna Padhi

I am an Assistant Professor in the Department of Economics and Finance at the Birla Institute of Technology and Science, Pilani, Pilani Campus. I obtained my PhD from CSRD, Jawaharlal Nehru University, New Delhi, India. I have spent the last five years teaching economics and carrying out research in the field of economics. My research interest includes applied economics in the areas of labour and welfare, Industry studies, migration studies, informality; economic growth, and issues related to poverty, inequality and health. Recently, I associated with the NITI Aayog's first study on India’s Booming platform and Gig work. I received the prestigious L K Deshpande Labour Economist Award from the Indian Society of Labour Economics (ISLE) at the 65th conference organized by the Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC), Bengaluru and the Department of Labour, Government of Karnataka during 9th January to 11th January 2025.
